Interview with Footbag Hall of Fame Member Ken “Kenny” Shults, Star of Tricks of the Trade 1 and 2

Ken Shults 02This is the first of hopefully many more to come with Footbag Hall of Fame members that contributed to the history and creation of the sport we all love and cherish, Footbag!

Ken Shults is the star of Tricks of the Trade 1 and Tricks of the Trade 2, the first instructional videos focused on teaching the original moves of Footbag. These videos were created by World Footbag back in the early days of the sport, and Ken was nice enough to work on the project with us to make it a high-quality production that still holds up in today’s digital age.  Though some of the moves have new names, the principles of how to execute them perfectly every time remain the same.

In today’s modern generation it’s easy to reference the ever-popular hacky sack circle, and more advanced players will know the basic moves of footbag involving stalls. But try to imagine a world where the first toe stall has never occurred. People go to competition and seek to get the most kicks. Frisbee and Hoola Hoops dominate the alternative sports scene. This is the world Ken Shults entered into when he got his first footbag for Christmas one year. The rest is history.

 This is Ken’s story:

Registration Open for 2013 IFPA World Footbag Championships!

Reposting the Good Word from the Footbag.org Announcement List:

World Footbag is an official sponsor of the 2013 World Footbag Championships being held in Montreal, Canada. We’re excited to sponsor this event another year strong! And we can’t wait to see the awesome videos that come from the Footbag  video contest too!!!

ifpa_worlds_2013

Here is the info from the Announce List:

Hello Footbaggers across the world!

Online registration is now open for the 34th Annual IFPA World Footbag
Championships in Montreal, Canada, from  July 28th until August 4th.

Registration is MANDATORY for all competitors by the deadline of  July 15th.

So please register and pay now online here:

http://www.footbag.org/registration/register?tid=1323272493

If you want to compete at Worlds this year, you MUST register online and
PAY by  July 15th, 2013.

There will be NO on-site or late registration. Whether you are a
competitor, a sideline player, a volunteer or a member of the staff, please
register and pay here today:

http://www.footbag.org/registration/register?tid=1323272493

If you’re a non-competitor, you’re still asked to pay in advance to
simplify check-in and help confirm headcounts, but you may register online
and pay when you check in to get your players’ pack.

You can pay the registration fee by PayPal or a bank transfer. But since
bank transfer fees can be high, and take a long time to be processed,
we strongly recommend PayPal (which also allows you to use credit
cards if you don’t already have a PayPal account).

Registration takes just a couple of minutes, so there is no reason not to
do it now.

If you don’t have a credit card or can’t use a bank transfer, you may ask a
friend to pay on your behalf. For PayPal, simply ask your friend to go to
your registration form, sign in to your  footbag.org  account, and then
submit the form and choose PayPal, and then sign in to their PayPal account
to complete the payment.

You can still change your registration any time you like, before the
deadline of  July 15th. This includes finding/changing partners up until the
very last day of online registration. If you have already paid and you make
a change that affects your total fee calculation, then we will either
refund or collect the difference when you check-in for the tournament in
Montreal.

If you don’t have a partner, that’s okay — go ahead and register and pay
without a partner for each event you need a partner for. Then, when
registration closes, we will send an email to each registrant giving a list
of available partners who have registered so that you can pair up.

It will be up to you to confirm your partnership with your partner, and to
update your registration form. (It will be possible to add/remove partners
for 48 hours after the deadline. But you may not make any other changes
at that point.)

Also, don’t wait to reserve your accommodation in Montreal. We’ve got great
options at the special footbag rate for you here:

and updates at:

The Net Director for this year’s event will be Luc Legault.
The Freestyle Director will be Steve Goldberg.

If you are interested in volunteering or being on staff, please contact me
directly at  pourluka@gmail.com  or contact the event directors if you wish
to volunteer for a specific event. (Please do not “reply to all” since it is
not permitted on the announcements list; so please reply only to me.)

The Whirl is not Enough – A Roadtrip Documentary

This is a repost of information that went out through the Footbag.org Announce list earlier today.

We’re excited to see this documentary released today and want to share it with our fans 🙂

Hello, footbaggers all around the world,

I am glad to finally announce the availability of a new footbag documentary movie, “The Whirl Is Not Enough” aka “TWINE”.

It was shot last year in Austria and Czech Republic, featuring not only the Austrian footbaggers, but also Honza Weber and Milan Benda!
After its premier at the Austrian Footbag Championships 2012 last autumn, it will also be part of “The San Antonio Film Festival” (Texas,
USA), in a couple of days!

It was a huge project for the Austrian footbag scene and we were happy enough to collaborate with a fantastic film crew! We would really love to see the film going out there to the global footbag community and to everybody interested in freestyle sports!

##

The full length documentary will be online starting THIS WEDNESDAY,
June 12th, 2013, at  6 pm CET* at <http://www.lm-media.at>.

##

If you want to leave comments or reviews, or if you just want to support our project, feel free to friend us on facebook:  www.facebook.com/freestyleTWINE

Just the best from Austria and have a good, shredsome summer!

Klemens
