Online registration is now open for the 34th Annual IFPA World Footbag
Championships in Montreal, Canada, from July 28th until August 4th.
Registration is MANDATORY for all competitors by the deadline of July 15th.
So please register and pay now online here:

If you want to compete at Worlds this year, you MUST register online and
PAY by July 15th, 2013.
There will be NO on-site or late registration. Whether you are a
competitor, a sideline player, a volunteer or a member of the staff, please
register and pay here today:

If you’re a non-competitor, you’re still asked to pay in advance to
simplify check-in and help confirm headcounts, but you may register online
and pay when you check in to get your players’ pack.
You can pay the registration fee by PayPal or a bank transfer. But since
bank transfer fees can be high, and take a long time to be processed,
we strongly recommend PayPal (which also allows you to use credit
cards if you don’t already have a PayPal account).
Registration takes just a couple of minutes, so there is no reason not to
do it now.
If you don’t have a credit card or can’t use a bank transfer, you may ask a
friend to pay on your behalf. For PayPal, simply ask your friend to go to
your registration form, sign in to your footbag.org account, and then
submit the form and choose PayPal, and then sign in to their PayPal account
to complete the payment.
You can still change your registration any time you like, before the
deadline of July 15th. This includes finding/changing partners up until the
very last day of online registration. If you have already paid and you make
a change that affects your total fee calculation, then we will either
refund or collect the difference when you check-in for the tournament in
Montreal.
If you don’t have a partner, that’s okay — go ahead and register and pay
without a partner for each event you need a partner for. Then, when
registration closes, we will send an email to each registrant giving a list
of available partners who have registered so that you can pair up.
It will be up to you to confirm your partnership with your partner, and to
update your registration form. (It will be possible to add/remove partners
for 48 hours after the deadline. But you may not make any other changes
at that point.)

I’ve been a footbag kicker since I saw my first stalls in high school. Some older kids played legit footbag, or freestyle as it’s commonly referred to, and I was enamored on my first day of high school when I saw them playing their unique style at lunch. This wasn’t like anything I had seen before, though I had been hacking for quite some time very enthusiastically for just about all of junior high and middle school up until then. I quickly befriended them, and started trying to learn my first stall. It took me all of a day to finally get it consistently.
Conveniently, I was lucky enough to grow up during the time that the internet and a PC became a household item for most families, around 2000. I searched and YouTube’d my way to videos of professional footbag players from around the world, joined the IFPA, carried a sand-filled bag everywhere I went, and even got some of my local friends to start playing with me. We learned tricks from each other and advanced our tiny segment of the sport in our corner of the world.
Soon after high school I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to pursue whatever I may find there 🙂 This proved to be a fantastic decision, helping to blossom my career in social media marketing as well as providing the fortune of meeting my lovely wife. I did not, however, meet any local footbag players. I was busy with the hustle and bustle of the city, and would mostly just run around Lake Merritt when I got the chance and shred in a few key places on my own. I did meet some casual kickers, but nothing permanent.
During that time I was fortunate enough to work with Dan Ednie on editing the footbag manual he an Vasek Klouda (wiki) c0-wrote together. We also did a short social media run as well, promoting the manual for sale in PDF form. We’re very close now to re-releasing the manual as a proper ebook. Stay tuned for more details about that!
The Twitter community wasn’t primed for the footbag sport at that time, with only a few key players online and some barely active community pages. Around then I put together some community profiles which are still in use today. They are @PlayFootbag and @FootbagBot.
@PlayFootbag is mostly famous for automatically tweeting new footbag videos posted to YouTube. It’s a hub for new footbag content and updates periodically throughout the day. I usually find really cool videos from other countries posted there; it’s pretty cool to see people shredding in Chile.
@FootbagBot is a ROBOT! Not really, but it runs on an algorithm that allows it to automatically retweet any tweet with the hashtag #Footbag. It’s meant to serve as a community hub for people in the footbag community to follow in case they miss a tweet they would have wanted to see, like somebody in there area calling out to local players that isn’t in their friends list. Most notably, I’ve been running the social media efforts at Flying Clipper for the past two years as well, which has been really fun.
I’ve been so happy to be able to participate in the growth of this sport in my own unique way. I feel like social media is the place to be these days, and it’s great to help some companies and the community overall in engaging with each other through social media. I definitely can say I love my job 🙂
Hello, footbaggers all around the world,
I am glad to finally announce the availability of a new footbag documentary movie, “The Whirl Is Not Enough” aka “TWINE”.
It was shot last year in Austria and Czech Republic, featuring not only the Austrian footbaggers, but also Honza Weber and Milan Benda!
After its premier at the Austrian Footbag Championships 2012 last autumn, it will also be part of “The San Antonio Film Festival” (Texas,
USA), in a couple of days!
It was a huge project for the Austrian footbag scene and we were happy enough to collaborate with a fantastic film crew! We would really love to see the film going out there to the global footbag community and to everybody interested in freestyle sports!

Players from around the world will converge on Montréal, Québec in Canada this year to vie for the title of the World Champion in the various footbag sports! We couldn’t be more excited about this event, as we are every year. It means a ton of new footbag footage will start arriving on YouTube, a variety of new and interesting tricks will be mastered and disseminated among the footbag players of the world, and of course a new World Champion will be announced!
